  • I challenged myself to be very public during M1.0 therefore 2.0 does not exist as writing in this realm.

See you on the other side my love.

  • The common refrain, “It’s the journey, not the destination,” could make a perfect catchphrase for Process Art. A movement that arose in the 1960s and '70s and has since expanded in definition to describe a general philosophical approach to making art, Process Art places its emphasis on the process and act of artistic creation rather than the actual finished work that comes out of it.

Identity

Ennis is a Korean-Canadian contemporary artist. Her practice is rooted in self-exploration and omni-channel storytelling. Very conceptual pop with sharp injections of humor. She experiments with a full spectrum of digital to physical/analog mediums. From virtual architecture to painting, 35mm film, soundscapes and more. Ennis often creates through obscure identities for extended periods of time, followed by sacrificial release.

Realest was her first major body of abstract work, spanning 5 years of development. On the surface it is an independent thesis; her personal photo-ethnography of American Hip-Hop & Black Culture. Layered in between pages of research is a parallel narrative. A young female coming of age as an artist. Who claws her way to the city of her dreams – New York, marries a man with a curse, discovers self-love, self, affinity for change…

Producing Realest pushed Ennis into writing her personal Manifesto 1.0 (2017-2022), of which she also executed several other bodies of work under. The most extensive projects continued along an academia theme, being a dissertation and personal brand architecture treatise. She sculpted characters such as “🎾ㅃ (TENNISBALLBB) THE #FOODPORNSTAR” and “Professional Muse for Geniuses.” They required her to adopt method acting and finally venture in front of the camera.

Ennis began her journey into the arts with classical violin. She studied Suzuki for 12 years then transitioned to photography. Her introduction to design was by becoming art director for a lifestyle magazine.

First solo exhibit (~age 20): an intimate photo series of women undressing. Agent Provocateur produced the private viewing event in Vancouver. Shortly after, she moved between Hong Kong & Atlanta while studying for a B.F.A in graphic design. Off campus, she spent ample time travelling, immersing into food culture as a consumer, operator and artistic subject matter.

2015, Ennis graduated magna cum laude from Savannah College of Art & Design. She relocated to Brooklyn without hesitation, working for various marketing and innovation agencies. Her clients included brands like Pepsi, Johnson & Johnson, Rumble Boxing, BareMinerals on global, national and local scales. These scopes highly influenced her fine art practice, especially for project managing and world-building.

Checking in at the end of 2023. Ennis was ruminating on changing her full legal name as continued experimentation in personal identity. Her latest series in progress is a mixed-media collection of love stories called G.E.M.S.
